Hollow Threat Custom Sneakers W.I.P

This is my first custom kicks, a Hollow Threat bats all over design that interacts with the supporting painting(you’ll see at the show, or later on my portfolio),  i’ve been digging the nu-pattern-art lately, especially those with character involved, so i thought my Hollow Threat bats(death bats? skull bats?) would look cool as a repetitive pattern on sneakers, the idea came from the bat flying transition scene in my toy videos! (i wish i could just copy/paste like i did in the animation).

my custom sneaker will exhibit at Art Whino gallery from December 18th 2010 to January 21st 2011, many artists i respected are on-board, i’m sure this will be one awesome show for all you sneaker heads!  check out more info + my processes below! ;)

TAGUR blank sneakers! superb quality, i believe its ready to paint right out of the box, pretty clever idea of making kicks dedicate for tagging! TAG UR?!

pencil sketch lightly on the surface, free style!

tracing outline with my trusty sharpie extra fine!

masking begins…

masked! sealed with Ad mailers, they made this boring masking job little more exciting! (thank you junk mails!)

airbrushing…. i notice when you stair at RED for too long, it became not so red, it turns orange?! scientist ever discover this? or something wrong with my eyes? :/

layers of red completed!

inking the bats once again! this time with some filling and thicker stokes…

all inked up! i’ve lost count how many bats i draw for this project….

2 layers of varnish coats & unmask it….

painting the ring around base in red, and some touch ups here and there…

turning TAGUR logo black, and sign the kicks! (i really hoped the base & embroidery would be black instead of khaki)

replaced the shoe lace with a red one! and my Hollow Threat sneaker is DONE! :)
