yay! finally got my hands on clutter 16!! to be honest, this is my first clutter magazine, sadly NZ magazine shops don’t carry them(and many other great art zines), they could have one less women’s weekly on shelf?

issue 16 covers all aspect of today’s designer toy, vinyl, 3d printing, japanese soft vinyl and i shared some resin toy process/tips in my interview! my thanks to the very talented nick for the interview and making my pages all pretty & colorful…hehe, clutter sure is one of the better designed zine! (so is their website)

OVERDUE!

here is an overdue announcement(released december 2k11) of OVERDUE and OVERSTAYER, projects by NZ hip hop artist King Kapisi! OVERDUE is a quarterly hip hop, culture magazine slash overstayer look book available in print format as well as digital, you can read it online here!

….and the above is my contribution to OVERSTAYER’s latest collection, the idea came from an afternoon of chitchat with Kaps, about toys, art and his projects, most of you may not know that he is a HUGE toy collector! so its pretty easy for me to design a tee for him, we went for a toy concept with Samoa flavor, turning him into a toy-like figure, and referencing my Maori Warrior toy, the result = Lil’ Kaps.

MW All Black Edition art toy featured on GROOVE GUIDE issue 383! (with a freakish looking cover…hehe)

you can find MW under the Groove Gear section, however there’s a misprint, RRP $160 suppose to be in USD, the missing ‘USD’ confused some local collectors, MW art toy is $200 NZD or $160 USD + shipping! sorry for the confusion! if you’ve bought from Santos, you did NOT pay more! :-)

by the way, show at Santos(114-116 Ponsonby Rd, Auckland) has extended till this sunday(oct 9), your last chance to check out MW and other artworks!!

New Hollow Threat Ident!

say bye-bye to old Hollow Threat intro, a dark atmospheric logo animation that doesn’t really express what HT is, all HT design came from positive thinking, even though some devilish graphics might confuse you, its exact what HT is all about, We Are Just A Hollow Threat! so here’s the first look of new Hollow Threat identity video….(you’ll see it over and over again in the future hehe)

p.s. new toy is shaping up nicely, expect some preview next week..!?

finally the new tee is here! this is one of many things i’ve been working on in the past few weeks, introducing a new name & identity for my maori warrior character, years of sketches & revisit, unintentionally, it has slowly build up a little collection, and now it’s called MW, this will be a side project where i continue to explore NZ culture & document in my style!

MW t-shirt is now on my online store, available in black/charcoal, this very limited edition tee is designed & printed in New Zealand!! my thanks to King Kapisi(NZ hip hop icon), patiently modelling for MW tee, and put on his game-face for the photo shoot! >:d

i’ve also made a mini-site for the project(end up not as mini as i planned), check it out :)

two weeks ago, i got a phone call from anne of santos cafe, congratulating about seeing my figure in the “magazine”, i thought it was ACCLAIM magazine, which had a tiny photo of my PANDARA, but she sure sounded way more exciting than a little photo on a magazine should be, my curiosity grows as the conversation goes, towards the end of chat, i just have to ask “what magazine are you talking about?” yes, i sounded like an idiot on the phone the whole time haha…. and i FINALLY obtained my copy this week!! :-)

SURPRISE!! i’m on the cover of pro\design magazine(issue 111), i remember doing an interview earlier this year, but never thought that they would have me as the cover! for those who haven’t heard about this magazine, pro design is new zealand’s very own design magazine, covers all sorts of commercial design from nz and internationally! BIG thanks to mike and p\d team for this coverage! honored to be on a quality local zine like this, however i’m hoping to feature on nz’s womans weekly someday…. :P

…in this issue i talk about toys & paper diorama, shared some of my work procedures, my little knowledge about the toy trend…and more toy talks!

Stealthily Acclaim

i was given a copy of latest issue of ACCLAIM magazine while shop at Triple One(R.I.P) last week, been told that its a cool issue about streetwear and photography, something i’d be interested in, so i flip through the mag when i got home, guess what i found?!

PANDARA! Anniversary edition spot on vinyl culture section!! what a surprise! thanks for the coverage, ACCLAIM! for those whose into street culture and photography, this is the issue(22) for you! :-)

1. Deer Plush by Emily Beaulieu (aka Follow The White Rabbit)

these deer are so cute, had my eyes on them for long time, finally get an excuse to buy it hahaha, perfect gift for V Day! thanks Emily for doing the custom plush, makes it extra special! :D

p.s. canada got some super cute stamps!!! i dont collect stamps, but i’m keeping these! hehe…

2. Gloomy Muzzle Harness edition

seen lots gloomy toys, but this is by far my favorite!! totally sick design…..

and the mini version of it, i think it’s a zipper thing, thanks Tony from Popup for this extra gift!! & PodgyPanda for traveling miles and miles to pick this up for me…. sad that there’s no vinyl toy store in Auckland anymore :-(

3. Bunny Bunny by Amy Lam

got this for my V Day present! hand made super cute fimo bunny = priceless! however its not baked LOL, waiting for a sunny day to fix this :-P

4. Elmo Key Cap

another V Day gift! yay…. i’ve been digging elmo and other sesame street stuff lately! still want to get myself a elmo tee hehe…. thanks JB! :-)

weeee! just received DESIGN NET magazine today, a korean magazine i did some interview with few weeks ago, they are damn fast! #140 is a special issue on toy designs, featuring artists like Sket One, David Horvath, Shin Takana, Easy Hey….etc, and i’m lucky enough to be part of this!

must say i really enjoyed the zine, even though i can’t read korean, but the nice clean layout and tons of pictures made up to it, i read it over and over as if i know the words….hehe

Faesthetic is also new to me, its a pretty cool magazine without many texts, which is perfect for me, i hate readings haha… full on drawings and doodles!! i did some exclusive artworks for it, also unveils where Metal Spirit came from…. both magazine are out now! go grab them!
