Saturday, February 26th, 2011

continues from W.I.P. Part 1, i’m finishing up this custom Symbiote for upcoming For The Love Of Vinyl exhibition at Dragatomi

14. masking the symbiote, prepare to paint the shoes…

15. red shoe!!

16. prepare to paint white base coat, i use a shrpie to outline where to eyes and hair are, so the guide line will still be visible after white layer!

17. sculpey parts painted and glued!

18. another layer of white paint, masked horns, ready for final face paint…

19. mixed my own ZOMBIE-MINT color, specially for Veganpires!

20. face painted in gradient!

21. painted details and spill some blood on his face, i mean cherry juice….

22. glue on rest of accessories and paint his pant black!

23. every vampire needs a cape! so does Veganpires! but i’m totally useless when it comes to sewing, luckily i could seek help from mom, she’s really good at it, she made a perfectly fit cape in half a day!

24. lastly, layers of mat varnish & signature! (mom should have signed this hehe…)

Veganpire Symbiote is born! heading to Sacramento this March… Watch out! all you Californian cherries  ;-)

Veganpire Symbiote W.I.P. Part 1

Friday, February 18th, 2011

VEGANPIRE aka Vegetarian Vampire, revisit of an old idea i’ve been working for long time, the cherry sucking vampires, finally this time came up with a proper name, and a new design that i’m applying cross platforms, first on the Symbiote!

1. blank symbiote, accessories & goodies from For The Love Of Vinyl curator Denise! :)

2. preparing templates for his hair, eyes & nose…

3. trace the features on symbiote, making sure it looks right like what i’ve pictured in mind….

4. shaping up his nose/mouth with super sculpey!

5. complete his nose/mouth part, i decided to bake it separately, due to lack of info on symbiote materials, i’m afraid i might melt some parts like my sketchbot last time, hehe….

6. more templates! horn and top hat! i think this is the first time i use compass since high school?! yes i know how to still draw perfect circles…

7. marking horn & top hat position… *half guessed*

8. base shape of the mini top hat!

9. draw the cherry symbol on top hat, i’ve designed this symbol specific for VEGANPIRE, you’ll see more of this later on…

10. sculpted mini top hat!! pretty small huh?

11. horn or ear? i dont even know myself… it just look balanced with this little thing hehe…

12. all sculpey parts completed!!

13. some ribbon & buttons for his clothing, all accessories ready! paint & finishing next… (stay tuned for part2) ;)

Hollow Threat Custom Sneakers W.I.P

Friday, December 10th, 2010

This is my first custom kicks, a Hollow Threat bats all over design that interacts with the supporting painting(you’ll see at the show, or later on my portfolio),  i’ve been digging the nu-pattern-art lately, especially those with character involved, so i thought my Hollow Threat bats(death bats? skull bats?) would look cool as a repetitive pattern on sneakers, the idea came from the bat flying transition scene in my toy videos! (i wish i could just copy/paste like i did in the animation).

my custom sneaker will exhibit at Art Whino gallery from December 18th 2010 to January 21st 2011, many artists i respected are on-board, i’m sure this will be one awesome show for all you sneaker heads!  check out more info + my processes below! ;)

Hollow Threat Gundam-Bot W.I.P

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Hollow Threat Gundam-Bot, short for “Hollow Threat Gundam – Mobile Suit Sketchbot”, can the name get any longer?! :P

This is my custom Sketchbot for an upcoming show at Munky King LA! In this custom robot, i’m trying to bring in my personal flavors, some memory from childhood, and new influences today! grow up watching japanese robots cartoon like mazinger, voltron, golden warrior gold lightan…etc, and used to make lots of BB Gundams, so first thing came to me is to do a Gundam x Hollow Threat x Sketchbot mash up!

the long process has been documented, image heavy!(over 40 pics) so click here to see the entire W.I.P. :-)

Behind the scene…

Friday, October 15th, 2010

while waiting for the JB to be ready for release, and in middle of beating heavy workloads… somehow i felt like doing some video editing late last night(stress therapy?!), so i put together this short behind the scene of making JB promo video, it was so much fun making the JB video, its the 3rd toy video we did, and we seem to know what we are doing this time, hahaha….

at the end of video, you’ll see the “extra, bonus, unseen” footage of the filming in a tunnel built since WWII?! where JB interacts with tourist, they seem to mistaken JB as part of the historical object in the tunnel?!(make sure you turn on subtitle!) i giggled so bad, the video is unusable…. good times! :-D

once again, thanks to Geoff Budd, Ognedal, Amy Lam and Mark@WO for creating this video
